ABOUT RACETECH STEEL

British International Trading P/L was established on the strong metals pedigree of the T I Group of the UK (Click here for more information.) and in 1981 commenced importing and stocking materials for automotive and more specifically motorsport application. This saw the successful developments of two brands of materials in the R531(Reynolds 531) tube and also our own BiTube products for use in both CAMS and ANDRA categories of race cars as well as a significant market in the Go Kart chassis manufacturing industry in Australia at that time

In the early 1990's a significant restructuring of the European Steel industry saw the demise of both these materials due in part to their proprietary nature and then the rationalization of capacity through out the European steel industry that saw minimum mill requirement for raw material hollows go to unsustainable levels. Subsequently, British International directors sought to replace these materials in their growing stock and service business with the very best of on going available product.

Through extensive supply side and customer side research, we settled on the 4130N grade of steel primarily available ex USA at that time, as the best choice for replacing the earlier stocked products. This Mil T 6736B Cond N material was increasingly in demand and widely applicable to the automotive, motor sports, aviation and aerospace markets, and with careful sourcing, saw British International grow our stocked size range to over 200 different items. In 1996 we launched our new Racetech Steel brand including the RT650 product range that covered the Mil T 6736B 4130N materials, and the RT350 brand which covers the high tensile mild steel in CDS and CDW / DOM products.

The business has continued in this same direction for a number of years and has continued to grow, and in some areas consolidate according to demand and business opportunities, including growth with the purchase in 2004 of the Hawker Pacific metals business, (as they restructured their business to cater for more aircraft components). Today the Racetech Materials division of British International Trading P/L has become one of the main stock and service activities of the company.

The Racetech materials division of British International Trading P/L has grown to include a wide range of specialist metal products suitable for use in many critical applications as well as offering to engineers in many industries the opportunity to develop products requiring locally available high strength raw materials. Please see our products pages on this site for the current range and should you be looking for other high performance metals for either critical applications, or other engineering demands, please email or phone us with your enquiry and we will do our best to respond positively to your needs.
